The Making of a Book

The Show is Emily Carr University's annual exhibition of work by over 400 graduating artists and designers. Invited this week by artist and ECU lecturer Annie Briard, I was privileged to be among the throng marvelling at the talent and audacity of the grads' creative work.
The image shown is one of two single-channel videos by Laur Flom, MFA. This one--Hand Bound, 2025-- shows the artist struggling to make a book with his hands tied.
Flom's other video, Blind Book, 2025, shows the same figure wearing a blindfold as he tries to trim and assemble the pages of a book.
